The Board of Directors and Senior Management of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation have expressed their disappointment in statements made by some Liberians calling for the removal of their Country General Manager, Mr. Debar W. Allen. These statements and protests accuse Mr. Allen of being responsible for the company’s actions and inactions regarding its obligations in various communities and the country.
In response, the CEO of BMMC clarified that Mr. Allen joined the company in 2013 through a nationwide search conducted by the then CEO and President of Aureus Mining Company, Mr. David Reading, with the approval of the Board of Directors. The position of Country General Manager is not influenced by recommendations from the Government of Liberia, as it is not a position mandated by the company’s structure or the Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the government.
The CEO emphasized that Mr. Allen is a model employee and manager with a strong service record, contributing significantly to the company’s success as Liberia’s first and largest commercial gold producer. He highlighted Mr. Allen’s commitment, dedication, and expertise in providing employment opportunities for over 3500 Liberians.
The statement further emphasized that the Board of Directors and Senior Management have no intention of seeking Mr. Allen’s resignation. They clarified that the company’s actions or inactions cannot be solely attributed to one manager and that Mr. Allen actively pursues ways to strengthen the company’s social license in project areas and across the country.
The management of BMMC called on those calling for Mr. Allen’s resignation to cease and desist, urging them to join the company in finding constructive ways to enhance relationships between the company, host communities, and the country. They emphasized that no pressure or protest would lead the company to act illegally against its employees and reaffirmed their confidence in Mr. Allen’s leadership.
Overall, the company stands by Mr. Allen as he continues to serve at the discretion of the CEO and Board of Directors. They believe in his unwavering commitment to the company’s success and remain confident in his ability to fulfill his role as General Manager for Country Affairs.
