Superintendent-designate Victoria Worlobah Duncan is currently taking steps to strengthen her position in America before her confirmation hearing. The report indicates that despite not being officially confirmed, Attorney Victoria Worlobah Duncan, who has been designated as the Superintendent for Margibi County, traveled to the United States to meet with influential supporters of the Unity Party who are opposed to her appointment by President Joseph Boakai.

During her visit, she aimed to mend fences with individuals who have a significant interest in and influence over the selection of the county’s next superintendent. Rev. Alexander Bango Collins, a prominent Liberian residing in the US, played a key role in organizing the meeting with Madam Duncan.

Collins, who contested the 2020 special senatorial election in Margibi and supported President Boakai’s presidential bid, had been contacted by his team in the US to conduct background checks on potential candidates for the position. While they had initially considered recommending someone else, they were eventually suggested the name of the country’s gender coordinator as a non-controversial choice.

The meeting focused on how Madam Duncan could collaborate with individuals in America associated with the Unity Party, considering their mutual interests from both countries. There were concerns that these individuals might influence President Boakai to retract her nomination.

Following the meeting, attended by former Mayor Jeff Johnson, who had signed a sister city relationship with Unification City in Lower Margibi, Collins praised the gathering as productive and development-oriented. The discussions were described as “Great, patriotic, development-oriented, and spirit-led conversations.”

Madam Duncan, a former magistrate in Margibi and assistant superintendent for development under former President Sirleaf, has faced criticism from some UP members in the county for allegedly not actively supporting Boakai during the run-off elections.

Despite opposition and threats of protest from some individuals in Margibi, Madam Duncan’s confirmation by the Liberian Senate has been delayed due to undisclosed issues being addressed behind the scenes. There were initial concerns about her temperament, with some speculating that she may harshly deal with dissenters, while others believe she is unlikely to do so.

Overall, Madam Duncan’s efforts to mend fences and build support in America are crucial in solidifying her position as the Superintendent of Margibi County. The outcome of her confirmation hearing remains uncertain, but her proactive approach in engaging with key stakeholders demonstrates her commitment to the role.
