Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador Madam Julie Endee has accused the Executive Branch of the government of manipulating the case she filed against controversial social media talk show host Nayapougma Oldpa Yeazeahn, also known as Prophet Key. Last week, prosecutors withdrew all criminal charges against Mr. Yeazeahn due to insufficient evidence to prosecute him. However, Endee could refile the case against him.
The case against Mr. Yeazeahn was based on damages for slander and libel filed by Madam Endee. Court records show that Endee entered a nolle prosequi on charges of criminal coercion, menacing, and disorderly conduct, effectively ending the criminal case before trial. The prosecution cited lack of sufficient evidence as the reason for dropping the charges but left open the possibility of refiling them if needed.
In response to the dismissal of the charges, Madam Endee accused the Executive of interfering with the judicial branch and the justice system. She organized a protest called “Women for Justice” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, where she expressed her dissatisfaction with the handling of her case. Endee claimed that the Executive had influenced the decision to drop the charges against Mr. Yeazeahn without her knowledge.
Endee alleged that Prophet Key had informed her that nothing would come out of the case because of his government ties, suggesting that the Minister of Justice, controlled by the Executive, played a role in the dismissal of the charges. She emphasized her commitment to seeking justice and declared her readiness to take the case to the ECOWAS regional court if necessary.
Speaking about the lack of support from the Executive, Endee lamented that no member of the executive branch, including the President, had reached out to her. She criticized the partisan politics within the national government and accused Yeazeahn of spreading false rumors about her to tarnish her reputation.
Expressing her frustration with the Liberian justice system, Endee highlighted the emotional distress and pain caused by the alleged interference of the Executive in her case. She insisted on holding Prophet Key accountable for his actions and demanded justice for the slander and libel she faced.
Despite the challenges she has encountered, Madam Endee remains resolute in her pursuit of justice and accountability. She stands firm in her conviction that the truth will prevail and is determined to seek redress through legal means. The case between Madam Endee and Prophet Key reflects the complexities of navigating the intersection between politics, justice, and personal reputation in Liberia’s legal system.
