Henry Boye Flomo, the communication director of the National Elections Commission (NEC), tragically passed away while attending a ten-day intensive training in Building Resources in Democracy, Government, and Elections (BRIDGE) at Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Ganta City, Nimba County. He fell off while attending the training at the Jackie Guest House and was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately died enroute.

The late Mr. Flomo, aged 48, had bathed in a pool at the Jackie Guest House prior to his demise. His brother, Patrick Flomo, expressed his disbelief at the sudden loss, stating that Henry had been in contact with him until the day of his death. Patrick Flomo described the death as a significant blow to the family, emphasizing that Henry had not been ill before his passing.

Before working at the NEC, Henry Flomo was employed at the Liberia Broadcasting Corporation ELBC. His death was deeply mourned by journalists and media houses, highlighting his positive working relationships within the media community. Head Trainer James Wallie from the National Elections Commission also expressed shock at Henry’s sudden death, emphasizing that he was not sick prior to the tragic event.

Diaspora Alert (DA) extended their condolences to Flomo’s family and loved ones, emphasizing the need for an independent autopsy by an internationally licensed pathologist to determine the cause of death. Concerns were raised about the circumstances surrounding Flomo’s passing, citing a toxic exchange with individuals in Ganta regarding recent elections and threats made against his life.

DA urged the Government of Liberia to ensure transparency and accountability by conducting an independent autopsy to address concerns about press freedom, safety, and potential foul play. The organization stood in solidarity with Flomo’s family in seeking truth and justice in his honor.

The unexpected death of Henry Boye Flomo sent shockwaves through the media community and his family, leaving behind a void that will be difficult to fill. His contributions to the National Elections Commission and the media industry were highly valued, and his untimely passing serves as a reminder of the fragility of life. May his soul rest in peace.
