Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, also known as Mr. Jeety, has made significant contributions to the economic development of Margibi County, particularly in Weala, through his Jeety Rubber Company. The company, established less than two years ago, has provided job opportunities to hundreds of residents, bringing much-needed economic relief to the area where provision shops were scarce.

During the official launch of the Jeety Rubber Company, Mr. Jeety addressed accusations of undue influence over the Liberian government, challenging his accusers to provide evidence to support their claims. He even went as far as vowing to waive all his assets worth over a hundred million dollars and leave Liberia if such evidence is produced.

Despite facing criticism, Mr. Jeety remains dedicated to his mission of supporting job creation in Liberia and helping the government achieve its goal of promoting local manufacturing through initiatives like “Made in Liberia.” The Jeety Rubber Company has already had a positive impact on the lives of residents in Weala and Margibi County, providing employment opportunities and encouraging small-scale business growth in the area.

However, the company is operating below its full capacity due to a lack of sufficient rubber supply from local farmers. This challenge is exacerbated by Liberia’s current moratorium on the export of unprocessed rubber, which has sparked debates within the industry. While some stakeholders advocate for lifting the moratorium, Mr. Jeety and other key players support maintaining it to ensure fair market prices for farmers.

Looking ahead, Mr. Jeety aims to expand his operations in Liberia by building another rubber plant to produce finished goods and medical supplies, contingent on securing an adequate supply of raw materials. The government, represented by Agriculture Minister Dr. Alexander Nuetah, recognizes the need to address the underlying issues affecting the rubber industry, such as pricing concerns and access to raw materials.

Dr. Nuetah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting value addition in the rubber sector and promised to relay the concerns of smallholder farmers and the Rubber Planters Association to President Boakai. He emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive policy and investment environment to promote local manufacturing and create more opportunities for economic growth.

In conclusion, Mr. Jeety’s efforts in Margibi County have been instrumental in providing economic opportunities for residents and stimulating local business development. Despite facing challenges, his commitment to job creation and local manufacturing signals a positive trajectory for Liberia’s economic development. As stakeholders continue to collaborate and address industry concerns, there is potential for further growth and prosperity in the region.
