Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) recently addressed a go-slow action staged by workers in Grand Kru County, as reported in an article by New Dawn on February 21. The issue has been resolved, and workers have resumed their duties after reaching an agreement signed by the workers, management, and the Workers’ Union, with the presence of members of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus and local authorities.
Regarding the workers’ grievances with insurance arrangements, GVL clarified that apart from the National Social Security covering all employees in Liberia, all other third-party insurances such as SAAR Insurance are negotiated directly by the Workers’ Union with insurers, without the involvement of management. The company specified that the contract mentioned in the publication with SUNU insurance was for insuring assets like vehicles, motorcycles, and equipment, and not for worker coverage. Additionally, the contract with SUNU was terminated in April 2023.
GVL provides housing with piped water, 24/7 electricity, healthcare facilities with professional nurses and essential drugs at all farm sites for qualified employees, as well as educational support through the Golden Veroleum Educational Support (GES) program for employees’ dependents and pupils from surrounding communities. The healthcare facilities also cater to the broader community’s needs. The company highlighted that most of the workers’ concerns have been addressed in the collective bargaining agreement negotiated by the Union, expected to be signed shortly.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the well-being of its employees and host communities, emphasizing its dedication to employee welfare and community development.
In conclusion, Golden Veroleum Liberia successfully resolved the worker’s go-slow action in Grand Kru County through dialogue and mutual agreement, ensuring that the employees’ needs and concerns are met. By providing essential amenities like housing, healthcare, and education support, GVL prioritizes the well-being of its workforce and the surrounding communities. The company’s active engagement with the workers’ union in negotiating agreements demonstrates its dedication to fostering positive relationships and addressing employee grievances. Through its ongoing efforts, GVL continues to prioritize the welfare and development of its employees and host communities.
