The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Justice, has made the decision to withdraw all criminal charges against Nayapougma Oldpa Yeazeahn, also known as Prophet Key, a controversial social media talk show host. This comes after he was taken to court on the basis of damages for slander and libel filed against him by Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador, Madam Endee.
Madam Endee accused Yeazeahn of defaming and humiliating her through his social media talk shows. However, according to court records, Madam Endee, through her lawyers, entered a nolle prosequi (a voluntary decision to end a criminal case before trial) in favor of Mr. Yeazeahn for the charges of criminal coercion, menacing, and disorderly conduct.
The prosecution stated that they were dropping the charges against Yeazeahn due to a lack of sufficient evidence to prosecute, and they may re-file the charges if the need arises. The Monrovia City Court Magistrate, Ben Barco, accepted Madam Endee’s request and ultimately dismissed the case.
During the proceedings, the Prosecution was represented by Cllr. Swahilo Sesay, Acting County Attorney for Montserrado; Atty Young and Cllr. Joseph Sammy, while Mr. Yeazeahn was represented by Atty. Samwar Fallah and others.
The case against Prophet Key was filed by Madam Endee on February 5, 2024, at the Monrovia City Court. She alleged that in December 2023, Yeazeahn had used a video podcast on social media to deliberately inform the public about certain aspects of her character.
Madam Endee requested the court to hold Prophet Key liable and to award her damages in the amount not less than US$5,000,000.00. She claimed that Yeazeahn had accused her of sleeping with former Liberian presidents to solicit jobs and alleged that she intended to do the same in President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s administration to retain her Cultural Ambassador job.
Now that the criminal charges have been withdrawn, it remains to be seen how this development will impact the ongoing legal dispute between Madam Endee and Prophet Key. It is clear that both parties have strong legal representation, and the withdrawal of the criminal charges does not necessarily resolve the underlying issues at hand.
As the case unfolds, it will be important for both parties to seek a resolution that addresses their concerns in a fair and just manner. The decision to withdraw the charges may provide an opportunity for dialogue and negotiation between Madam Endee and Prophet Key, and it is crucial that all parties involved approach this situation with a commitment to finding a mutually agreeable resolution.
