The Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Ganta City, Nimba has been facing a critical issue for over a year now – the lack of ambulance services. According to the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Allen Zormonway, this situation has significantly impacted the community, especially pregnant women and sick individuals who now have to find alternative ways to transport themselves to the hospital from far and near locations.

As reported by Thomas Domah, the aggrieved workers of the Ganta United Methodist Hospital recently resumed work after experiencing a slowdown in demand for their salaries and benefits, only to discover the ongoing challenge of not having ambulance services available. Mr. Zormonway expressed his concern over the absence of ambulance services for such a prolonged period, highlighting the difficulties it poses for the residents of the area who rely on the hospital for medical care.

The administrator blamed Rider, a non-governmental organization operating under the Ministry of Health, for failing to uphold their agreement to maintain the hospital’s ambulance. Despite the hospital managing the ambulance service, Rider was responsible for its maintenance, which has not been carried out as agreed upon. Mr. Zormonway estimated that it would cost around US$2,759 to restore the ambulance services and appealed to the community, county lawmakers, local administration, and the national government for support.

He emphasized the need for increased budgetary support for the hospital, as the current levels are insufficient to address their operational needs effectively. Mr. Zormonway highlighted the importance of community involvement and government support to ensure the sustainability and growth of the hospital. The hospital, run by the United Methodist Church health department, aims to provide continuous healthcare services to the people of Liberia, including those from neighboring countries like Guinea and Ivory Coast.

In an effort to address the challenges facing the hospital, the administration has initiated regular meetings to discuss and tackle ongoing issues. They have also undergone training to enhance their engagement with the community, lawmakers, and the government to seek support and secure the future of the facility. The hospital’s development agenda focuses on creating a partnership with the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church to establish a more active contribution to the hospital’s operations.

Despite the obstacles, Mr. Zormonway stressed the commitment of the United Methodist Churches and families to keep the hospital operational and accessible to the public. The goal remains to provide essential healthcare services to the citizens of Liberia and beyond. Through collaborative efforts and increased support from various stakeholders, the Ganta United Methodist Hospital hopes to overcome its current challenges and continue serving the community effectively.
