First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai is actively engaging with key stakeholders to foster partnerships aimed at addressing critical issues affecting marginalized groups, including women, girls, and children across Liberia. One of her recent engagements took place over the weekend at the Executive Mansion office in Monrovia, where she met with the UN Women Liberia Country Office led by Madam Comfort Lamptey.

During the meeting, Mrs. Boakai expressed her appreciation for UN Women’s efforts in supporting the empowerment of women and girls in Liberia. She indicated her willingness to collaborate with the organization at various levels to alleviate the challenges faced by women in the country. Madam Lamptey, in return, thanked First Lady Boakai for the warm reception and briefed her on UN Women’s various programs across Liberia.

Among the programs mentioned by Madam Lamptey were the Gbatala, Gbar, and Bomi Women Cooperatives, which were established to support women and girls’ education initiatives, as well as provide assistance to market women and farmers. Mrs. Boakai applauded UN Women for these initiatives, acknowledging the significant relief they bring to the lives of women and girls in the country.

However, the Liberian First Lady also shared her plans to implement programs that would support the government in addressing issues such as drug addiction and abuse. She emphasized the importance of adult literacy programs, especially for women, and sought UN Women’s support in these areas. Following their discussion, Mrs. Boakai and Madam Lamptey agreed to continue working together to improve the lives of women and girls in Liberia.

They envisioned creating opportunities that would generate alternative livelihoods for women, enabling them to serve as role models for younger girls in their communities. The collaboration between the two influential women reflects a shared commitment to uplift and empower marginalized groups in Liberia.

In conclusion, the partnership between First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai and UN Women demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by women, girls, and children in Liberia. By leveraging their strengths and resources, they aim to create a more inclusive and equitable society where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive. Their ongoing collaboration sets a positive example for other stakeholders to join forces in advancing gender equality and empowerment initiatives across the country.
