Supporters of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) are criticizing President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for renominating Cllr. Cooper Kruah as Labor Minister after his initial nomination as Justice Minister was stalled. The CDC Council of Patriots (CDC-COP) has voiced their disapproval of this decision, questioning the motives behind it and suggesting that if Kruah was not deemed fit to be Minister of Justice, then he should not be considered for the Labour Ministry either.
The CDC-COP released a statement denouncing Kruah’s reappointment, accusing President Boakai of political maneuvering and nepotism. They have expressed concerns that Kruah’s transfer is a result of the administration’s vindictive tendencies, highlighting a growing discontent among CDCians regarding President Boakai’s governance style. The group believes that such decisions undermine public trust and confidence in the government’s ability to address the nation’s pressing issues.
In response to the criticism, officials from the Boakai administration have defended the decision, stating that it was made in the best interest of effective governance. They have emphasized the need for strategic realignment within the cabinet to ensure optimal performance and service delivery to the Liberian people. However, opposition members remain skeptical about Kruah’s reappointment and its potential impact on the government’s operations, especially in terms of labour policy and governance.
The CDC-COP has called on the Liberian Senate to take a firm stance against such appointments, urging lawmakers to reject unfit candidates rather than participating in clandestine negotiations. The organization has also raised concerns about constitutional infractions and ethical lapses within the administration, including allegations of misappropriation of public funds and nepotism. They specifically pointed out Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung’s use of a private jet at taxpayers’ expense, which they believe violates the constitution and the Code of Conduct of Liberia.
The CDC-COP is urging the 55th Legislature to take action against these violations of the country’s laws. They are calling for accountability and transparency within the government, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and serving the best interests of the Liberian people. Overall, the opposition is expressing their concerns about the direction of the Boakai administration and its impact on governance in Liberia.
