ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy (AMLTA) has successfully enrolled a new batch of young Liberian trainees for a three-year international-standard vocational and technical education program in various disciplines. The latest batch of trainees consists of 71 individuals, including 10 females, bringing the total number of students enrolled at AMLTA since its launch in 2018 to 276. Out of this total, 95 students have graduated and found employment at ArcelorMittal Liberia, while 110 are in the process of completing their programs.

The 71 successful candidates were officially matriculated into the institution on February 20 in Yekepa, Nimba County, after being selected from a pool of 2,047 applicants who underwent rigorous assessments in line with the high standards set by AMLTA. According to Steve Worzon, the Administrative Supervisor at AMLTA, the selection process involved reviewing credentials, conducting interviews, and subjecting the candidates to the eight Learning Ability Batteries (LAB) assessments, which evaluated their proficiency in English, Mathematics, Science, and their areas of interest.

Mr. Worzon emphasized that the institution prioritizes selecting the most suitable candidates for their chosen vocational careers, and in cases where a candidate’s skills and interests align better with a different area, they are transferred accordingly. Out of the 71 new recruits, 19 are from Nimba County, 22 from Grand Bassa, and 9 from Bong County, with the remaining trainees coming from other counties of Liberia.

Dawie Loots, the Manager of AMLTA, welcomed the new recruits and urged them to adhere to the rules and regulations of the institution while emphasizing the importance of dedicated study to avoid any setbacks in their educational journey. He also congratulated the trainees for successfully completing the rigorous admission process, noting that while they have challenging academic work ahead, there will also be opportunities for recreational activities to help alleviate stress.

The AMLTA is committed to providing a high-quality vocational and technical education to empower young Liberians with the skills needed to thrive in the workforce. With a focus on professional development and practical training, the academy aims to equip students with the knowledge and expertise required to pursue successful careers in their chosen fields.

The enrollment of the new batch of trainees not only highlights the dedication of AMLTA to nurturing young talent but also signifies the continued effort to invest in the future of Liberia’s workforce. As the fifth batch of trainees embarks on their educational journey, they have the opportunity to learn and grow within a supportive and enriching environment, setting the stage for a promising and prosperous future in their respective professions.
