When a king dies, the kingdom mourns. Then, sometimes before the tears have dried, somebody has to answer the slightly awkward royal question: Who is next? That is where Tooro finds itself.

The sudden death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV on August 27 has brought Tooro and Uganda into mourning, but it has also opened a delicate conversation about succession.
