NTSOLENG Mohale is not just another engineer; he is one of the top engineers that Lesotho has produced, leading major construction projects both within Lesotho and abroad. Currently serving as the resident engineer at MSCK, Mohale is overseeing the construction of the Polihali Transfer Tunnel as part of Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) under the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA).

Born and raised in Kolo, Mafeteng district in 1967, Mohale boasts extensive experience in construction supervision of large diameter drill and blast waterway tunnels. His expertise includes commissioning and overseeing various construction activities such as pipelines, dams, concrete works, excavations, quarrying, and sanitation works. Mohale has worked in Lesotho, Botswana, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of South Africa, gaining valuable experience across diverse geographies.

Mohale holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering from Salford University in the UK, obtained in 1997, as well as a National Diploma in Civil Engineering from Lerotholi Polytechnic in Lesotho in 1992. His professional journey in engineering began in 1993 at Katse Dam Construction under the Lesotho Highlands Consultants (LHC), where he worked as an Inspector of Works overseeing foundation excavations and grout mix preparations.

After completing his studies in the UK and working at the ‘Muela Underground Hydropower Station, Mohale joined the LHDA Young Professionals Programme as an intern with Lahmeyer MacDonald Consortium (LMC). His career continued to progress rapidly, with roles ranging from Assistant Materials Engineer at Mohale Dam to Deputy Special Projects Manager at LHDA overseeing various contracts and projects until 2012.

In 2012, Mohale was appointed as Chief Engineer for the construction of the Spring Grove Dam in South Africa, a significant project that further solidified his reputation as a capable leader. Subsequently, he led the second phase of the project, Mooi Mgeni Water Transfer Scheme Phase 2 (MMTS2), and took on roles as Chief Resident Engineer at the Olifants River Water Resources Development Project in Limpopo, South Africa.

Since 2019, Mohale has been serving as Resident Engineer at MSCK, overseeing the Polihali Transfer Tunnel construction. His journey as an engineer has been shaped by the LHDA’s Young Professionals Programme, which provided him with invaluable on-the-job training and laid the foundation for his successful career. Mohale emphasizes the importance of initiatives like the Young Professionals Programme in nurturing the next generation of engineers and professionals in the industry.

Reflecting on his experience, Mohale acknowledges the impact of the programme in shaping his career and is committed to paying it forward by mentoring and supporting upcoming professionals in the field.
