A Case of Negligence Leads to Alleged Loss of Manhood

Recently, a case of alleged negligence by doctors at the state-owned Mabote Filter Clinic has surfaced, resulting in a Berea man allegedly losing his manhood. Makata Mokhalinyane has taken legal action against the clinic, seeking M500,000 in compensation for being given the wrong medication that he claims led to the paralysis of his manhood.

According to Mr. Mokhalinyane, he visited the Mabote Filter Clinic for a tooth extraction on March 10, 2023. Despite his medical booklet clearly indicating that he was allergic to penicillin, he was prescribed Amoxicillin pills containing penicillin. This wrongful medication caused him to develop complications, including skin blisters, swollen lips, difficulty breathing, and itchy eyes. He also suffered blisters on his scrotum and penis.

Four days later, Mr. Mokhalinyane returned to the clinic due to the complications he was experiencing. The doctor attending to him immediately instructed him to stop taking the medication and prescribed a different course of treatment. He was later admitted to Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital on the evening of March 14, 2023, and discharged on March 23, 2023.

As a result of the alleged negligence by the Mabote Filter Clinic staff, Mr. Mokhalinyane claims to have lost the ability to achieve an erection. He is demanding M300,000 for pain and suffering and M200,000 for the loss of amenities, totaling M500,000 in damages.

The Mabote Filter Clinic, Ministry of Health, and Attorney General Rapelang Motsieloa have been named as the first to third defendants in the legal matter. They are yet to file their response to Mr. Mokhalinyane’s civil claim.

The case highlights the importance of proper medical care and attention to patients’ medical history and allergies. The consequences of negligence in prescribing medication can be severe and life-altering, as seen in Mr. Mokhalinyane’s case. It also serves as a reminder for healthcare providers to adhere to established protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of their patients.

In conclusion, the alleged negligence by doctors at the Mabote Filter Clinic has led to a man losing his manhood, sparking a legal battle for compensation. The case underscores the need for thorough patient assessment and adherence to medical guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future. As the legal proceedings unfold, the outcome of the case will shed light on the accountability and responsibility of medical professionals in ensuring the health and safety of their patients.
