Martin ‘The Big Boss’ Sibanda, a member of the band, expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of their fellow bandmate, Gile. He described Gile as a disciplined and passionate artist who had become like a brother to him. Gile’s passing has left a significant void within the group, as they not only lost a band member but a cherished friend.

Obert Vundla, the group’s bassist, also struggled to find the words to express his grief over Gile’s passing. He shared that he had known Gile since 1998 when he joined Ndolwane Super Sounds. Gile played the drums for the Nimcitsheleni album and contributed to all subsequent albums, showcasing his dedication to his craft. According to Vundla, Gile’s entire life revolved around music, and he never pursued any other profession.

Born in Mpopoma suburb in Bulawayo in 1971, Gile may not be a household name for many, but his musical legacy speaks for itself. He drummed for notable bands such as Solomon Skuza, Andy Brown, Soul Brothers, Dan Tshanda’s Splash, and Ndolwane Super Sounds. Despite playing for these high-profile names, Gile remained humble and out of the spotlight, earning him the reputation of the proverbial “man behind the scenes.”

Gile’s journey into music began at a young age, as he turned to music as a means of earning a living after losing his father and dropping out of primary school in 1980. The late Solomon Skuza recognized Gile’s potential and invited him to join the Fallen Heroes band, where he recorded the successful album Love and Scandals at the age of 19.

Following his time with the Fallen Heroes band, Gile traversed both inside and outside of the country, collaborating with various musical groups and artists. His reputation as a talented and reliable drummer grew, earning him nicknames such as Galiman, The Senior Man, and Mr. Ceremony during his time with Ndolwane Super Sounds. Gile also lent his expertise to numerous musicians, including Sandra Ndebele, Jeys Marabini, Allen Ndoda, Precious Manyonyoba, Dubia Masters, and Chase Skuza, among others.

Gile’s dedication and contribution to the music industry have left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working with him. His skill and passion for music have been celebrated by fellow musicians, fans, and the industry at large. Even though he may no longer be with us, Gile’s legacy as a talented and respected drummer will continue to live on.

The band shared a video of Gile’s performance as a tribute to his talent and memory. As they mourn the loss of their dear friend and bandmate, they are committed to preserving and honoring Gile’s musical legacy, ensuring that his impact on the industry is never forgotten.
