Apple Music has announced that its latest Up Next artist for the month of February in Ghana is Lasmid, a talented Afrobeats singer-songwriter. Born Nathaniel Ladsmid Owusu, Lasmid expressed his excitement about being selected for the Up Next program and thanked Apple Music for their support since the beginning of his journey.
Lasmid first rose to prominence after winning Ghana’s MTN Hitmaker reality show in 2019. He has since released a series of singles that have laid the groundwork for him to explore a fusion of Afrobeats and Highlife music. His single “Friday Night” in 2022 was the first to see viral and chart success, propelling him into the spotlight while maintaining a unique blend of pop and groove.
Teaming up with JZyNO, Lasmid achieved massive viral success with “Butta My Bread” in 2023. He continued to release more Afropop singles, including “Bad Boy” and “Fiona” feat. Fazil, before dropping his latest single “PUUL” in 2024. This latest release showcases his smooth vocals and catchy melodies, further solidifying his rising status as a standout voice in the Afrobeats and Highlife genre.
Apple Music’s Up Next program, highlighting emerging musical talents, will feature Lasmid across its Up Next playlist. This curated playlist, available at https://apple.co/3eITdJd, showcases a diverse class of new artists picked by Apple Music editors from around the world. The lineup is not limited to any particular genre and represents artists that the editors are passionate about and eager to expose to a larger audience.
Past participants in the Up Next program include Grammy-nominated and critically acclaimed artists such as Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, Megan Thee Stallion, and many others. The program aims to identify, showcase, and elevate rising star talent through the full force of the platform, connecting global audiences with new talent.
Launched in 2015, Apple Music’s Up Next program expanded into its sixth year in 2022. It includes a companion Up Next playlist featuring a dynamic class of new and emerging artists, genre, and country-agnostic. Furthermore, Apple Music introduced localized campaigns for the Up Next program to feature artists across various regions, including the U.S., U.K., Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, and other countries worldwide. This global effort demonstrates Apple Music’s commitment to supporting emerging artists on an international scale.
Ultimately, Lasmid’s inclusion in the Up Next program serves as testament to his growing influence and impact in the music industry. His unique sound and undeniable talent have captured the attention of international audiences, positioning him as an artist to watch within the Afrobeats and Highlife genres. With the support of Apple Music’s Up Next program, Lasmid’s music is poised to reach an even larger global audience, solidifying his status as a rising star in the music industry.
