The Ikeja Golf Club’s 2024 Captain’s Day tournament was a weekend filled with excitement and competition, with golfers Rafiu Kolawole and Austin Aigbotsua emerging as winners in their respective categories. The event, which took place from March 18 to 23, featured various categories including Veterans, Super Veterans, and Men’s winner handicap.
In the Veterans’ category, Kolawole came out on top with a score of 39 gross in NETT, while Aigbotsua took home the Best Gross category with a score of 84 gross. The Handicap Men’s 20 and above category saw Seun Aderibigbe clinching the top position with a score of 92 gross in Men’s Best Gross, and Niyen Ezomo emerging as the champion in Men’s NETT.
Rasaki Muritala was crowned the winner in Men’s Best Gross in the Handicap Men’s 0-19 category with a total of 72 gross, while Bedemi Ojo took home the title in Men’s NETT. In the Ladies category, Remi Olufadebo emerged victorious in Ladies’ NETT, while Lynda Obieze claimed the Best Gross title.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to all past captains of the club in recognition of their service. Prizes were also given to the winners in each category. The Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Olusina Akinyemi, expressed his desire to promote the image of the club by upgrading facilities that will inspire members to achieve greater heights.
Akinyemi reflected on the club’s accomplishments in the past year, stating that they were just the beginning compared to the projects that are in the works. Despite the challenges of the economy, the club was able to make significant improvements including the deck of the car park, renovation of the new clubhouse, acquisition of new equipment such as a sod cutter, mowers, aeration equipment, wood shredder, blower, and the expansion of Hole 1 green.
He expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the management committee during the 2023/24 term, acknowledging their dedication and love for the club. Akinyemi emphasized the importance of honoring the past leaders of the club who have played a significant role in its success and growth. Overall, the Captain’s Day tournament was a successful event that brought together golfers of all levels to compete and celebrate the sport of golf.
