The family of the late Nakuru doctor Laban Kiptoo Lagat, who was murdered last week, believes that their son was killed by people he knew and suspect that he worked in a toxic environment. This suspicion arises after a post-mortem carried out on Sunday by government pathologist Titus Ngulungu revealed that the doctor died of manual strangulation.
The family is calling for the hospital to be held accountable and cooperate in finding out what happened to their son just before he died at the hospital. They are also urging the government to speed up the investigation to bring his killers to book and ensure justice for the doctor. There have been no arrests made in connection to the murder.
The family expressed satisfaction with the post-mortem results and is hopeful that the police will uncover the motive behind the murder. At Kiptoo’s funeral, the family eulogized the 26-year-old doctor as a disciplined and resourceful pillar of the family. They are concerned that the investigation is taking too long, especially since the hospital where he worked has proper security systems.
Kiptoo’s colleagues described him as a very supportive and humble person who was dedicated to his work. They, too, are calling for justice for their colleague. Born in 1997, Kiptoo graduated from the Egerton University School of Medicine and Surgery in February 2023 before joining the Nakuru Hospital for his internship.
Detectives have informed the family that they have several leads, but a faulty CCTV system has hindered access to footage from the day of his death. The family is hoping for a thorough investigation and for those involved in the death of their son to be arrested.
