Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung delivered a statement at a two-day Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation in Rabat, Morocco on February 16, 2024. He emphasized Liberia’s commitment to forging strong political and economic ties with fellow developing nations, believing that South-South Cooperation holds immense potential as a catalyst for political consolidation, peace, and security.

VP Koung highlighted the transformative power of South-South mechanisms, citing Liberia as a testament to its potential. He called upon global partners and nations from Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America to seize new opportunities and commit to partnerships that promote inclusive development. While trade liberalization remains crucial, he emphasized the need to complement it with coordinated policy actions to achieve collective economic prosperity.

VP Koung commended the efforts towards regional trade agreements including the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), the Greater Free Trade Area Agreement (GAFTA), and the Latin America Free Trade Association (LAFTA). He also extended gratitude to the Government and people of Morocco for their leadership in advancing South-South cooperation.

He reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the cause of South-South cooperation, stating that it is based on the collective self-reliance of developing countries and seeks to enable them to play a more active role in international policy and decision-making processes in support of their efforts to achieve sustainable development.
