The Hoa Binh Construction Group, a prominent Vietnamese construction company, has been awarded a lucrative tender to build housing for the police and students in Kenya. This multi-billion project, worth Ksh10.4 billion (USD72 million), will encompass the construction of accommodation for police officers as well as students from the Technical University of Kenya. In total, the company will oversee the design and construction of 3,400 apartments as part of five development projects.

Le Viet Hai, the founder and chairman of the Board of Directors at Hoa Binh Construction Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the African construction market, noting that it is the largest and most promising market for construction projects. The company’s success in securing this tender underscores its growing presence in the region.

In addition to the police housing projects, the construction company has also been invited to submit proposals for other multi-billion social housing initiatives. This further highlights the company’s reputation and expertise within the construction industry.

The tender for the housing projects was advertised by the Ministry of Lands, attracting a range of interested parties. Hoa Binh Construction Group’s successful bid for the projects solidifies its position as a leading player in the construction sector.

The company’s entry into the Kenyan market was preceded by a visit from its officials to the Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) in Western Kenya. MMTC, spearheaded by businessman Julius Mwale, aims to develop smart cities and infrastructure across Africa. During the visit, Hoa Binh Construction Group’s representatives engaged in discussions and benchmarking exercises with MMTC, signaling their interest in expanding their operations in the African market.

The government’s commitment to improving housing for security personnel was articulated by Ndindi Nyoro, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations committee. He highlighted plans to increase funding for the construction and renovation of police stations and staff quarters, emphasizing the importance of providing better accommodation for security officers.

In December of the previous year, Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, raised concerns about the poor condition of some police accommodation facilities, emphasizing the need for urgent renovation. He underlined the positive impact that improved housing would have on the morale and motivation of security officers who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Kenyan citizens and their property. This commitment to enhancing living conditions for police officers aligns with the government’s broader efforts to prioritize public safety and security.

Hoa Binh Construction Group’s successful bid for the police housing projects reflects its growing influence in the African construction market, as it continues to expand its portfolio of high-profile projects. The company’s expertise and track record in delivering large-scale construction initiatives position it as a key player in driving infrastructure development and economic growth in Kenya and beyond.
