Kileleshwa Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has taken a stand against the recent attack on Nairobi County Enforcement officers during an inspection drive at a construction site. According to Alai, approximately 20 individuals violently assaulted the officers, resulting in severe injuries. Some victims were so badly hurt that they needed plaster casts on both legs, while a woman had her hair pulled out, exposing her scalp.
In response to this vicious attack, Alai has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. He emphasized the need for justice for the victims and demanded that the suspect construction site be shut down, with all building activities suspended pending a thorough investigation. Alai raised concerns about the possibility of criminals operating under the guise of legitimate development in Nairobi, calling for accountability and reform within the city’s governance.
The parcel of land in question, earmarked for an apartment block, is reported to be legally owned by the government. The incident sheds light on the pressing need for transparency and oversight in Nairobi City County’s administration. Efforts to get a comment from the Nairobi County Government on the attack have been unsuccessful thus far.
The area where the assault took place has been under scrutiny following protests by South C residents earlier in the year. The residents accused the Nairobi County Government and the National Environment Management Authority of greenlighting the construction of substandard buildings that jeopardize their safety. A neighbor shared a harrowing experience of blocks falling onto their property from the neighboring construction site, causing damage but fortunately no casualties.
In light of these events, Alai’s firm stance against the attack and his call for justice and accountability resonate with many stakeholders. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for stringent measures to prevent similar acts of violence in the future. The community, government, and relevant authorities must work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in Nairobi.
