During the burial of the retired Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police Zachary Mwangi King’ori in Nyeri, former President Uhuru Kenyatta made a significant announcement. He offered a full university scholarship to King’ori’s son, who was still pursuing his studies at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at the time of his father’s death. Uhuru disclosed that the student had not completed his education, and therefore, he would sponsor his studies.
Additionally, the former President revealed that he would collaborate with allies of the former police boss to ensure a smooth transition of the student into the employment sector. He also mentioned that he would extend his support to King’ori’s brother, who is still studying at JKUAT. Uhuru committed to standing with him until he finishes school and further assured that they would work with other friends to ensure that he is settled after completing school in order to continue with their father’s legacy.
In recognition of King’ori’s philanthropic work, Uhuru donated Ksh1 million towards a foundation that was run by the former police boss. He commended King’ori for his efforts in helping needy students by paying their fees, describing him as a good friend and a kind-hearted man dedicated to catering for the less fortunate. Uhuru emphasized the importance of continuing this charitable work in memory of King’ori. He pledged the donation to ensure that more and more children could benefit from the foundation.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also made a promise to support King’ori’s children, given that their mother also passed away a few years ago. He assured that the government would provide assistance to the family during their challenging time.
King’ori passed away on February 11, 2024, after being admitted to a Nairobi-based hospital. His service to the community and dedication to helping needy students were acknowledged and honored by the former President and the Deputy President during the funeral ceremony. This gesture of support and recognition of King’ori’s legacy demonstrates the impact of his philanthropic work and the lasting impression he left within the community.
