A storm is brewing in Western Kenya as Ford-Kenya leaders have accused Trans Nzoia Governor Natembeya of undermining Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula. The leaders spoke out at a funeral service in Bungoma County, cautioning the Governor for his remarks that they believe are contributing to derailing the region’s political ambitions.
The leaders expressed their displeasure at Natembeya’s continuous negative remarks about the two senior leaders and Ford-Kenya politicians in general, deeming them disrespectful and out of line for a community leader. They urged the Governor to respect their leadership and refrain from speaking ill of them.
Emphasizing that Ford-Kenya is the second-oldest party in Kenya, the leaders demanded respect from the Governor. However, some leaders warned that they were prepared to continue the confrontation if Natembeya persisted in his actions.
In his defense, Governor Natembeya stated that he was not afraid to point out the Western leaders’ mistakes if he felt they were leading the community in the wrong direction. He clarified that his intention was not disrespect but a call for accountability and steering the community in the right direction.
The tensions escalated further on Saturday as MCAs allied with the Governor clashed with those from the Ford-Kenya Party, accusing the party of sabotaging the Governor’s leadership. Conversely, Ford-Kenya representatives accused the Governor of dismissing and undermining Moses Wetangula.
Earlier statements from Natembeya criticizing the party’s leaders for allegedly leading the Luhya community astray have deepened the divisions within the community, with different factions standing their ground on the matter.
The discord within the Western region continues to simmer as each side remains steadfast in their beliefs. The need for unity and respectful dialogue to address these differences is crucial to avoid further escalation of tensions. It is essential for all parties involved to prioritize the greater good of the community and work towards reconciliation and cooperation.
