New details have emerged surrounding the tragic death of NTV journalist, Rita Tinina. It was reported at Kileleshwa Police Station that she suffered from epilepsy and had experienced a severe five-day-old fever leading up to her passing. The initial report was made by her sister, Helen Silau Njaga, after finding Tinina unconscious in her Kileleshwa home.

Tinina, aged 46, was discovered unresponsive on her bed by her sister, who immediately called for medical assistance. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Tinina was declared lifeless upon their arrival. She was living with her eight-year-old daughter at the time of her death.

Following the incident, police transferred her body to Umash Funeral Home as investigations began. Speaking to the press, Silau, on behalf of the family, expressed shock and requested privacy during this difficult time for the family. The news of Tinina’s passing deeply impacted the media industry nationwide, with many colleagues remembering her as a trailblazer in journalism.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed recalled a time when Tinina had assisted him in filing a report when his equipment failed during coverage of a high-stakes event. ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo also praised Tinina’s significant contributions to journalism during this time of mourning.

Tinina’s career spanned working at the Nation Media Group (NMG) before joining KTN News in 2012 as a senior reporter. She later returned to NTV in October 2023. Her sudden death has left a void in the industry, with colleagues and friends mourning the loss of a talented journalist.
