Several students from Kenyatta University met a tragic fate after the bus they were traveling in was involved in a horrifying accident on Monday, March 18. The incident took place in Maungu, Voi, Taita Taveta County, where the university bus collided with a trailer, leading to the loss of lives and injuries to many students.
Witnesses reported that the university bus was rear-ended by a fully loaded trailer, causing severe impact on the students seated at the back. Images from the scene showed motionless bodies lying on the ground as bystanders tried to assist the injured before the authorities arrived.
Upon receiving the distress call, the police and a medical response team swiftly reached the accident site to provide emergency care to the wounded students and transport the deceased to the local mortuaries. The gruesome aftermath of the collision was evident as bus seats and personal belongings of the students were strewn around the area amid the pouring rain.
The tragic incident led to a traffic jam as onlookers paused to witness the aftermath in shock. However, the police managed to regulate the traffic flow and prevent any further disruptions on the road. At the time of reporting, the university administration had not released an official statement regarding the accident.
In a separate but equally devastating event, another accident involving a matatu and a tractor was reported in Bomet County. This incident resulted in multiple casualties and injuries as the matatu veered out of its lane on the Olonguroune-Silibwet Road, overturning in the process.
Eyewitnesses at the scene sprang into action to provide aid to the victims until the arrival of law enforcement and medical professionals. The injured individuals were promptly evacuated to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment, while the deceased were moved to the morgue for further procedures.
These two accidents came on the heels of a recent tragedy on the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway where two lives were lost in a road collision. Additionally, a student and a teacher from Kapsabet Boys High School tragically lost their lives in a separate accident over the weekend.
The string of road accidents underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives on Kenyan roads. Such incidents serve as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of responsible driving to ensure the well-being of all road users.
