President William Ruto has made a commitment to purchase a new school bus for his former institution, Kapsabet High School, following the unfortunate write-off of the old vehicle due to a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday, March 16. This assurance was conveyed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a visit to the school on Sunday, March 17.
Deputy President Gachagua emphasized the importance of caution while driving, especially when transporting students. He assured the school community that President Ruto would provide a replacement bus so that the school could continue its educational trips across the country. The tragic accident claimed the lives of a teacher and a student, while several other students sustained injuries.
DP Gachagua also mentioned that the government, under President William Ruto’s leadership, would ensure a dignified farewell for the deceased individuals. He provided an update on the injured students, reassuring everyone that they were in stable condition and would be discharged from the hospital soon.
In light of the incident, Gachagua urged all drivers and road users to be vigilant and exercise caution on the roads to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring. The bus, which was carrying 61 students and their teachers on a geographical trip from Kabarnet to Marigat, was involved in the accident.
President Ruto himself attended Kapsabet High School for his A-levels in 1985 after completing his earlier education at Wareng High School. The decision to replace the school bus exemplifies Ruto’s commitment to supporting his alma mater and ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
The gesture of providing a new bus not only addresses the immediate transportation needs of Kapsabet High School but also symbolizes a deeper connection and responsibility that President Ruto feels towards the school where he once studied. It reflects a dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment and promoting the educational pursuits of young students.
As the school community mourns the loss of lives and strives to recover from the tragic event, the assurance of a new school bus serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the resilience and solidarity that can emerge from adversity. President William Ruto’s commitment to Kapsabet High School underscores the importance of supporting educational institutions and ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and staff members.
