President William Ruto has recently made significant appointments in various government roles, including naming former Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Benjamin Washiali as the Chairperson of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority. This appointment, as stated in a gazette notice released on Friday, March 15, is effective immediately and is for a three-year term.
The gazette notice read, “In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) (a) of the Tourism Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Benjamin Washiali to be the Chairperson of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority, for three (3) years.” Washiali, who is a close ally to the president, had dropped his political aspirations in 2022 to support Ruto in the 2022 general election campaigns.
In addition to this appointment, President Ruto also revoked the appointment of Halima Yussuf Mucheke as the Kenyan Ambassador to the Hague, Netherlands, and appointed Silas Simatwo as the Chairperson of the Digital Health Agency for a three-year term, effective immediately.
Furthermore, President Ruto recognized and awarded five Cabinet Secretaries for their distinguished and outstanding services to the nation. Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u and the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage, Aisha Jumwa, were awarded the Order of the Golden Heart for their contributions. Other Cabinet Secretaries recognized for their service include Labour CS Florence Chepngetich Bore and Land CS Alice Wahome.
Moreover, several Cabinet Secretaries made significant appointments as well. Information, Communications, and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo appointed Esther Kagiri as a member of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication for a three-year term, while Trade CS Rebecca Miano appointed Anthony Muriuki Munyiri as the chairperson of the National Standards Council for the same period. Additionally, Transport and Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen extended the term of the Taskforce on the Development of the National Electric Mobility Policy, Strategy, Legislation, and Regulations for three years.
These appointments and recognitions underscore President Ruto’s commitment to strengthening various sectors of the government and ensuring that qualified individuals are placed in key positions to drive progress and development. It is evident that the president values the service and dedication of these individuals and seeks to empower them to contribute effectively to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
