Thousands of Kenyans could be at risk of losing their jobs after the government announced plans to shut down nearly 300 companies within the next three months.

In a gazette notice published on Friday, February 6, 2026, the Registrar of Companies, Damaris Lukwo, said that 293 firms would be removed from its register from May this year.

According to Lukwo, the companies will cease operations in the country unless they explain, within three months, why they should remain registered.
