Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has expressed his condolences to the family of former Nairobi County MCA Doris Ngoyo following a tragic fire incident that claimed lives on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at South B.

In a statement released by Sonko, it was revealed that Ngoyo lost her sister in the fire, who was in the house with her daughter and their househelp. Sonko extended his prayers to Ngoyo and her entire family during this difficult time, hoping for the deceased souls to rest in eternal peace.

Ngoyo, who suspects foul play, described the circumstances surrounding the fire as bizarre, noting that the fire was contained within the house located in the South B shopping center. She raised concerns about unanswered questions regarding what happened to her sister and niece, as the lights were on and the gas remained intact.

The former MCA also mentioned that her sister left behind a son who was fortunately at a sleepover at a relative’s house when the fire broke out. Sonko, while visiting the scene of the incident, pledged to assist in investigations to uncover the cause of the fire and also donated Ksh30,000 to support in organizing the send-off.

Neighbours recounted their attempts to rescue the victims by trying to remove the hot metallic door but were unable to do so as the intensity of the fire prevented them from reaching the trapped individuals in time. The fire, although devastating, was contained within the house and did not spread to neighboring houses. Unfortunately, the three individuals were burned beyond recognition and later transferred to the Kenyatta University (KU) hospital mortuary.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at the Uthiru 87 market, resulting in several stalls being reduced to ashes. The fire, which occurred on Friday, left numerous traders facing substantial losses. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported during the 10 pm incident. Investigations have been initiated to determine the cause of the fire at the market.

Both incidents serve as a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of fires and the importance of fire safety measures. Sonko’s gesture of support and involvement in the investigations demonstrate a commitment to helping those affected by such tragic events and seeking justice for the victims. The community’s response to these incidents highlights the need for vigilance and preparedness to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
