Motorists traveling along Thika Road found themselves at a standstill as the main highway leading into the city was blocked due to a major accident involving three vehicles. The collision, which took place near the GSU flyover, caused a lorry, a truck, and a car to crash into each other, leaving the occupants of all three vehicles trapped inside the wreckage.
According to eyewitnesses, a crane truck lost control, veered off its lane on the busy highway, and collided with both the lorry and the Toyota car. Some road users immediately rushed to the scene to help rescue the trapped passengers, as reports suggested that ambulances had not yet arrived at the accident site. Others took to social media to tag emergency service providers like St John’s Ambulance, urging them to respond to the emergency.
Despite the chaos and congestion caused by the accident, some resourceful road users decided to avoid the traffic snarl-up by either walking or taking alternative routes. Photos shared online depicted the grim aftermath of the crash, with the three vehicles severely damaged, glass shattered, and debris scattered across the road. Surprisingly, no fatalities were reported in the morning incident, and the exact number of victims was still unknown at the time of reporting.
This incident on Thika Road came just days after a tragic accident in Nyakach, Kisumu County, where nine people lost their lives and eight others were critically injured. The Nyakach accident occurred on the Katito-Kendu Bay highway when a truck transporting sand lost control and collided with a 14-seater matatu. The injured were immediately rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were taken to a nearby morgue.
The authorities had not yet arrived at the scene of the Thika Road accident or provided further updates on the victims. The series of recent road accidents serve as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving practices. It is crucial for all road users to exercise caution, follow traffic regulations, and remain vigilant while on the road to prevent such devastating incidents from reoccurring.
