The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has issued a notice of service interruptions across the city due to a leak in one of its water lines. The utility company announced plans to conduct corrective measures to address the leak, resulting in the temporary suspension of water supply. The interruptions are scheduled to begin at 10 pm on Thursday, March 7, and last until 3 am on March 8, 2024.

The leak was identified on the pipeline from Ng’ethu Treatment Works to Gigiri Pumping Station, specifically at a location called Raiyani near Thuita/Kibichoi. While the cause of the leak is still under investigation, Nairobi Water assured that efforts are being made to rectify the issue promptly. Only certain areas within the city, such as the Central Business District (CBD) and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), will be exempt from the service interruptions.

It is important for residents to remain calm during this time as the utility company works diligently to repair the leak and restore the water supply. The urgency of the repairs is emphasized to maintain the integrity of the water pipeline serving the city, necessitating the temporary shutdown of the supply for five hours. While service interruptions for maintenance work have been previously communicated in advance, this sudden interruption marks the first instance this year.

Nairobi Water encourages cooperation and understanding from its customers as they strive to resolve the issue efficiently. The utility company is committed to providing reliable and uninterrupted water supply to the residents of Nairobi. Customers are advised to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the service interruption during the specified timeframe.

In the past, Nairobi Water has implemented various measures to ensure the efficient operation of its water and sewerage systems. Regular maintenance and repairs are essential to prevent disruptions in service and maintain the quality of water provided to residents. By addressing issues such as leaks promptly, Nairobi Water aims to safeguard the water supply infrastructure and enhance the overall service delivery to its customers.

As the city of Nairobi faces this temporary water supply interruption, Nairobi Water remains dedicated to resolving the issue and minimizing the inconvenience to its customers. Continued cooperation and support from residents will contribute to the successful resolution of the leak and the restoration of normal water supply across the city.
