Now let’s dive into the latest updates:
Wobbly Prices:
There has been a recent debate on the fuel prices in the country. Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has been advocating for an increase in the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) contributions. The proposal is to increase the fee from Ksh18 to Ksh22 per litre to bridge the funding gap and address the backlog of maintenance activities.
Data Point: Drop in Fuel Price:
Following President William Ruto’s promises to lower the cost of living, the price of fuel has seen a consistent drop in the last six months. This downward trend has been welcomed by consumers.
Guaranteed Jail Term:
The HELB Amendment Bill 2022 proposes jail terms for guarantors who fail to settle the loans of applicants. This move aims to encourage repayment and reduce the default rate, which has been a challenge for the Higher Education Loans Board.
Other Stories:
We are also keeping an eye on various other stories, including the possibility of the United States sending troops to Haiti, the performance of the Kenya Shilling against the dollar, the Affordable Housing project selling two-bedroom houses, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s legal action against the Standard Group, and the government’s adoption of a Ksh400 million e-GP system for procurement services.
