Motorists and other road users in Kenya have been issued a caution regarding an upcoming abnormal transportation that is expected to disrupt traffic on highways for a period of 32 days. The logistics company responsible for the transportation has announced that the haulage will commence on Monday, February 26 and will run through to March 28, 2024.
In a notice published in local newspapers, motorists have been advised to plan their travels accordingly to avoid inconvenience during this period. The company conducting the transportation has urged road users to exercise extra caution and be aware of the abnormal load movement on specific routes.
The cargo will be transported from Mombasa to Malaba, affecting those who frequently use the routes along that stretch. The heavy-duty vehicles carrying the abnormal load will follow a specific route starting from Mombasa to Mariakani, then Voi, Mtito Andei, Emali, Machakos Junction, Naivasha, Nakuru, Webuye, and finally reaching Malaba. Although the company has not disclosed the nature of the cargo being transported, they have provided the dimensions of the load.
The abnormal load will be transported in four trucks, each with different weight capacities. The first truck will have an average gross weight of 71 metric tonnes, the second 60MT, the third 54MT, and the fourth 71MT. The dimensions of the trucks include varying lengths, widths, and heights to accommodate the specific cargo being transported.
Typically, items classified as abnormal cargo include boats, planes, military equipment, helicopters, and heavy construction materials. Currently, another logistics company, Sifa Investment Ltd, is also transporting heavy cargo from Mombasa to Malaba, with a journey that began on February 8 and is scheduled to end on March 31. The transportation of these oversized loads has captured the attention of Kenyans, causing traffic disruptions on major highways.
As road users prepare for the upcoming abnormal transportation, it is essential for them to heed the caution provided and plan their journeys accordingly. The awareness of abnormal load movements is crucial to ensure the safety of all motorists and minimize disruptions on the highways. Stay informed about the scheduled haulage and make necessary adjustments to your travel plans to avoid any inconvenience during this period.
