A tragic accident in Ngaramtoni, Arusha, Tanzania on Saturday has left at least 25 people dead and several others injured. The incident involved a Kenyan lorry belonging to a construction company that collided with multiple vehicles, including a Nissan Caravan, Mercedes Benz Saloon, and a Toyota Coaster, all registered in Tanzania. The lorry also struck a vehicle carrying students from the New Vision School of Arusha, as well as a public bus.

Senior Tanzanian police officer Awadhi Juma Haji confirmed that among the 11 fatalities were a young girl and seven foreign nationals. The lorry’s brake system reportedly failed, causing it to crash into the vehicles ahead. The driver of the lorry fled the scene, prompting a police manhunt.

Those who survived the accident were rushed to the Selian Lutheran Hospital for treatment. Tragically, among the casualties were eight missionaries from the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) organization. The missionaries were on a bus traveling from a training session when the accident occurred, resulting in their untimely deaths.

YWAM expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their team members and announced that they were providing support to the victims’ families. They did not disclose the nationalities of the foreign nationals involved in the accident. In response to the tragedy, residents have been urged to donate funds to assist the affected victims.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu expressed her condolences to the families of the victims and called for stricter vehicle inspections to prevent similar accidents in the future. She emphasized the importance of road users adhering to traffic rules to ensure safety on the roads.

The aftermath of the accident in Arusha has shocked the community, prompting a collective effort to support those affected by the tragedy. As investigations continue into the cause of the accident, the focus remains on providing care and assistance to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
