The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has officially declared its intention to acquire 2.185 acres of land in Samburu County for the establishment of a security installation. This decision was confirmed through a Gazette Notice issued on March 25 by the National Lands Commission, indicating that the land will be acquired from the Losesia Community.
According to the notice, the acquisition of the land is in line with the Land Act of 2012, Part VIII. The purpose of acquiring the land is for the development of security infrastructure and a training facility in Samburu County. The National Lands Commission has invited interested individuals to inspect the land acquisition plans at their headquarters during office hours. Additionally, the County Offices in Samburu County will also be open for viewing by interested parties.
The decision to gazette the land acquisition follows the government’s recent announcement of plans to construct a military training facility in Pura, Samburu County. The primary objective behind setting up the outpost is to address the escalating insecurity in the region. In response to the heightened insecurity, President William Ruto ordered the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to West Pokot on April 8.
President Ruto expressed concerns over the rise in insecurity, which led to the closure of schools in the area due to increased cases of banditry. He tasked the KDF with maintaining peace and ensuring the timely reopening of schools in line with the education calendar. This deployment aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing security in the region and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
In a related directive issued on February 15, President Ruto also instructed the relocation of a military camp from Uasin Gishu to Kerio Valley for similar security reasons. These strategic moves aim to strengthen security operations in vulnerable areas and mitigate the impact of insecurity on local communities. The government remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens across the country.
The establishment of the security installation in Samburu County signifies the government’s proactive approach towards addressing security challenges and improving the overall well-being of residents. By investing in security infrastructure and training facilities, the government is reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens. This initiative is a testament to the government’s prioritization of security and peacebuilding efforts to create a safe and secure environment for all Kenyan residents.
