Kenya: Man Ordered to Pay Ksh1.5 Million Over Defamatory WhatsApp Message to Lawyer

A court has ordered a man to pay Ksh1.5 million after finding that a WhatsApp message containing serious allegations against an advocate amounted to defamation.

The dispute arose after the man was served with pleadings in a land case in which the advocate was representing a client. He responded through WhatsApp, accusing the lawyer of being fraudulent, corrupt, criminal, incompetent and unfit to practise.
