The Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) has recently announced its plans to attract investors to lease, develop, and manage 13 hotels within national parks across the country. This initiative is aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and services within the parks to attract more visitors and boost revenue generation.

The tender notice issued by KWS on Tuesday, April 2, identified 13 sites in various national parks for potential development. Specifically, in the Nairobi National Park, there are five sites earmarked for leasing, including the Kisembe Site, Rangers Park, KWS Club House Site, Sebastian Restaurant Site, and Southern Bypass Sites. These sites are intended for the construction of tented luxury camps, a 20-bed business hotel, restaurants, and event grounds.

In Meru National Park, KWS is looking for investors to oversee the development of a 40 to 60-bed tented camp at the Fig Tree Site and another 40 to 80-bed lodge at the Mulika Site. Similarly, the organization is seeking partners for the leasing and management of 30-bed tented camps at Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks. Luxury tented camps at Amboseli National Park and Aberdare National Park are also part of the investor plan.

The Kenya Wildlife Service is inviting interested and eligible investors to participate in the leasing, development, and management of tourism sites in selected KWS-managed National Parks. Those interested can obtain further information from the Procurement office at the KWS Headquarters or contact them via phone or email.

This move by KWS aligns with the government’s efforts to promote private-public partnerships in the tourism sector. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has previously emphasized the importance of attracting investors to set up various facilities in the parks to enhance the visitor experience and increase revenue. In a meeting with US Ambassador Meg Whitman, Mutua discussed the potential for American investors to establish tourist facilities in Kenyan parks through partnerships with the government.

Overall, the initiative to engage investors in the development and management of hotels within national parks in Kenya is a strategic move to enhance the country’s tourism sector. By attracting private investment and expertise, KWS aims to improve the infrastructure and services within the parks, ultimately contributing to the growth of the tourism industry and the economy as a whole.
