Students who have scored Grade D- (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and below now have the opportunity to pursue their desired career path through the artisan programme. This program aims to equip students with the necessary skills required to thrive in the job market. The courses are available for application on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal, and interested students must submit their applications before the specified deadline.

For the 2024 KUCCPS application cycle, students have until February 26, 2024, to apply for their desired artisan courses. The selection of candidates for these courses is based on the grades they obtained in the KCSE examinations. Specifically, the artisan courses are tailored for students who scored D- and below in their KCSE exams.

A recent review conducted by Kenyans.co.ke highlighted the cost of various artisan courses offered under the program. The most expensive course identified was the Trade Test Grade II & I in Electrical Wireman at Kenya Industrial Training Institute, which has a fee of Ksh83,500. Following closely is the Food and Beverage Production (Culinary Arts) Level 4 course at Railway Training Institute, with an average cost of Ksh72,900.

Most of the artisan courses are priced at an average of Ksh67,189, with a few exceptions. The most affordable course in the program is the Grade III Electrical Installation course at Railway Training Institute, priced at Ksh45,700. Similarly, the NVCET in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning offered at the same institution also falls within the same price range.

Students interested in enhancing their skills in plumbing can opt for the Grade III in Pipe Fitting and Plumbing course at Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology, priced at Ksh49,420. Moreover, those looking to specialize in installing cooling systems can enroll in the program offered by the same institution at a similar cost.

For students keen on wastewater technology, water supply, and water treatment, the Artisan in Sewerage Operators Course at Kenya Water Institute is available at Ksh56,000. Additionally, the Water Operators course and Water Supply Operators program at the same institution are also priced at Ksh56,000 each.

The Artisan programme offers students an opportunity to gain practical skills and knowledge in various technical fields at an affordable cost. By enrolling in these courses, students can enhance their job prospects and secure employment in their chosen career paths. The availability of these artisan courses for students who scored D- and below in the KCSE exams opens up new avenues for skills development and career advancement.
