The Kenya Railways Corporation has made it a priority to ensure the personal safety of passengers, employees, partners, and the general public when on and around trains. They have outlined several measures to promote personal safety when boarding and disembarking from trains, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency and safety of their systems.

One of the key safety measures outlined by the Kenya Railways Corporation is the importance of observing the yellow line. Passengers are advised to stand behind the yellow line until the train comes to a complete stop. This serves to prevent passengers from accidentally falling onto the railway tracks or being struck by oncoming trains. Proximity to the line can induce dizziness, increasing the risk of someone falling onto the rail tracks.

Additionally, passengers are advised not to force doors open or attempt to board the train when it is leaving the platform. It is recommended to wait for the next scheduled train rather than attempting to catch a train that is already in motion. Furthermore, passengers are encouraged to allow others to step off the train before they board. This ensures a smooth transition between boarding and alighting, reducing time wastage during round trips and preventing cases of collision and falling among passengers.

The Kenya Railways Corporation has also put measures in place to assist passengers with special needs, such as station attendants and train crew who are trained to assist passengers with disabilities in boarding and alighting the train. Passengers traveling with prams or heavy luggage are provided with specific guidelines for boarding and alighting the train, including utilizing spaces allocated for heavy luggage and ensuring stability and safety while boarding and disembarking.

Grab rails are strategically placed to help passengers comfortably board and alight trains, providing stability, especially in cases of frail platforms placed on train doorways. Passengers are encouraged to use grab rails to steady themselves when boarding or alighting the train.

To promote efficiency and reduce time wastage, passengers are advised to prepare to alight before reaching their destination station. This proactive approach helps minimize time wastage at various drop-off points, ensuring a smoother overall experience for passengers.

In efforts to ensure the safety of its clients, the Kenya Railways Corporation has encouraged members of the public to employ the outlined guidelines, reducing cases of accidents and delays while using the train system in the country. This is in line with the Kenya Railways Corporation Act, which states that individuals traveling in any part of a train, vessel, or vehicle other than areas typically designated for passenger use are not eligible for compensation in the event of an injury or accident involving the train, except in cases where the loss of life or personal injury is caused by the want of ordinary care, diligence, or skill on the part of the Corporation or any employee.

Overall, the Kenya Railways Corporation is dedicated to promoting personal safety and efficiency when boarding and disembarking from trains, with the aim of providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers and stakeholders.
