The government has slashed spending on operations along the Mombasa to Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), shifting billions toward completing the delayed extension to Malaba in a new bid to revive the old proposed project.

The changes appear in the first supplementary budget for the financial year ending June 30, where the Treasury reduced several allocations on the existing line while boosting funding for the western corridor expansion plan.
