The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of a section of Kenyatta Avenue at Uhuru Highway Roundabout for two days to facilitate highway maintenance works. This closure will prevent motorists from accessing Uhuru Highway from Kenyatta Avenue. The closure is set to begin on Saturday, February 24, and the section of the road will be reopened on Sunday, February 25, at midnight once the repairs are completed.

In a notice issued by KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u, motorists were advised to use alternative routes such as University Way, Utalii Street, Market Street, and Posta Road to access Uhuru Highway from Kenyatta Avenue. Additionally, City Hall Way, Harambee Avenue, and Haile Selassie Avenue were also suggested as alternative routes during this temporary closure.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution while approaching the affected section and to follow the guidance provided by traffic marshalls on site. Kenyatta Avenue is a major dual carriage highway connecting the Central Business District (CBD) and Upper Hill, experiencing heavy traffic congestion during peak hours. It also serves as a crucial link to other major roads in the city including Moi Avenue and Uhuru Highway.

In addition to the closure on Kenyatta Avenue, KeNHA also announced another temporary closure affecting motorists on Lang’ata Road. The planned maintenance works on Lang’ata Road were scheduled to begin on February 24 and end on February 25. Drivers heading towards the Madaraka roundabout from Raila Odinga Way (Mbagathi Way), Mai Mahiu Road, and Lang’ata Road were advised to take alternative routes such as the Ole Sangale link or the T-mall Roundabout.

Other roads targeted for maintenance include the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit road, set for dualling at a cost of Ksh192.5 billion in KeNHA’s 2023-2027 five-year strategic plan. The Authority is focused on improving the infrastructure and safety of major highways and roads in Kenya to ensure efficient transportation for motorists and commuters.

The temporary closures and maintenance works announced by KeNHA are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and safety of the road network in Kenya. It is important for motorists to cooperate and use alternative routes as advised during these periods to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth traffic flow. KeNHA continues to play a crucial role in providing and maintaining a reliable road network for the benefit of all road users in the country.
