Two female officers attached to Kasarani Police Station encountered a harrowing incident on Friday night, February 16, as they were assaulted and robbed by three armed individuals. According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the female officers were accosted by the gunmen while patrolling the Kiwanjani area.

The assailants restrained the officers, with two of the men grabbing one officer’s hands while the other individual seized the second cop while shouting ‘kill’ ‘kill’. Amid the altercation, the gunmen managed to seize a firearm from one of the officers before quickly fleeing the area. The other female officer, armed with her rifle, attempted to fire three rounds of ammunition to contain the assailants but unfortunately missed her mark.

Fortunately, a backup team that was on the other side of the road arrived promptly, showing force which allowed the robbers to flee without shooting back at the officers. A team led by the Sub-County Police Commander and Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO) Kasarani has since embarked on a thorough search to recover the lost firearm and nab the suspects.

This incident highlights the surge in criminal activity within the Kasarani area, with residents lamenting that the once-flourishing residency is now marred with terror and crime. Kasarani SCCIO Jimmy Kimaro recently revealed to the media that over 40 cases of suicide, murders, and unexplained deaths were recorded in the first three months of 2023, a worrying trend that promises to heighten security.

Worryingly, the latest report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) indicates that the crime rate in the country increased from 81,272 cases in 2021 to 88,083 in 2022. Police stations in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Meru recorded the highest cases of crimes at 9.7, 8.9, and 6.5 percent, respectively in 2022.

This disconcerting incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential danger faced by law enforcement officers as they carry out their duties in safeguarding the community. The bravery and dedication of the officers who endured this traumatic ordeal are commendable, and their determination to recover the stolen firearm and bring the culprits to justice is testament to their unwavering commitment to upholding the law.

As the authorities continue to investigate this crime and step up efforts to enhance security in affected areas, it is essential for all citizens to remain vigilant and cooperative with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. The support and collaboration of the public are crucial in the collective effort to combat and prevent criminal activities, ultimately creating a safer and more secure environment for all.
