Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come out to accuse the government of allegedly backing the High Court order that halted the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report. In a statement released on March 30, Kalonzo expressed his belief that the court ruling was a strategic move aimed at disrupting the agreements reached at the Bomas of Kenya.
According to Kalonzo, the decision to bar the NADCO report’s implementation was a deliberate attempt by the authorities to undermine the progress made during the dialogue process. He labeled the Kenya Kwanza administration as dishonest for reneging on their commitments concerning the report. The Azimio la Umoja Coalition Principle criticized the government for lacking sincerity and goodwill in their dealings, citing it as a prevailing issue in the country.
Kalonzo went on to assert that the court action, which he believes is state-sponsored, should cease immediately. The High Court in Nyeri had issued an injunction suspending the implementation of the report after activist Michael Muchemi filed a petition. Muchemi argued that the submission of the dialogue report posed a threat to the country’s rule of law, particularly with regards to the proposal for an audit of the 2022 general election results.
The activist contended that auditing the election outcomes was beyond the constitutional scope as it could not overturn the Supreme Court’s decision. In a ruling delivered by Lady Justice Dora Chepkwony, the court restrained certain parties from convening any meetings to discuss, approve, adopt, or appoint a panel to execute the recommendations outlined in chapter two of the report.
The NADCO report had been formally presented to President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga on March 8. The committee responsible for compiling the report was chaired by National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. The bipartisan efforts aimed at fostering constructive dialogue and reconciliation between different political factions in the country.
Kalonzo and Ichung’wah highlighted the recommendations put forth during the talks, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation in addressing the nation’s challenges. As the political landscape in Kenya remains turbulent, the implementation of such reports plays a crucial role in fostering peace, stability, and progress in the country.
Despite the setbacks caused by the court order, advocates for dialogue and consensus-building remain hopeful that the NADCO report’s recommendations will eventually be implemented for the greater good of the nation. The need for transparent and inclusive decision-making processes continues to be emphasized as Kenya navigates its way through complex political dynamics.
