The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that the deadline for onboarding to the eTims platform is Sunday, March 31, 2024. Despite the deadline lapsing at midnight on Sunday, business people will still have the opportunity to onboard to the eTims platform. However, those with existing businesses who onboard after the stipulated deadline will face non-compliance fines.

KRA has emphasized that any tax not declared through eTims will be considered tax evasion, and fines will be imposed based on The Tax Procedures Act. These fines will amount to double the tax evaded. It is crucial for business owners to adhere to the deadline and onboard to the eTims platform to avoid facing these non-compliance fines.

The process of creating an eTims account is straightforward. Users can visit the website portal etims.kra.go.ke and click on the sign-up button. They will then be required to enter their KRA PIN and verify it, provide their mobile phone number, and optionally enter an email address for communication purposes. Creating a password and verifying it is also part of the sign-up process.

Upon completing the sign-up process, a one-time password will be sent to the user’s mobile number for login purposes. Once logged in, users can click on the service request tab and select the eTIMS solution. They will be required to upload necessary documents such as an Identification Document and a Signed eTims commitment form.

After clicking send, users will need to wait for a software configuration that will enable them to create an electronic invoice and transmit it to KRA. Alternatively, the service is also available through a USSD Code *222#, which provides prompts for users to follow and onboard to the eTims platform.

It is essential for business owners to comply with the onboarding process to the eTims platform to ensure smooth tax operations and avoid facing non-compliance fines. KRA offices are ready to assist and guide users through the onboarding process, making it easier for businesses to transition to the eTims platform seamlessly.

In conclusion, the deadline for onboarding to the eTims platform is fast approaching, and business owners are encouraged to complete the process before the stipulated deadline to avoid facing non-compliance fines. The eTims platform offers a convenient way for businesses to declare and transmit taxes to KRA electronically, simplifying the tax payment process.
