Former Riruta Member of County Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for the murder of his former wife, Lucy Njambi. The judgment was delivered on April 5 by Justice Joel Ngugi at a Kiambu court.

Njoroge was found guilty of involvement in the murder of Njambi, which occurred in 2018. Alongside two other suspects, he was deemed responsible for the kidnapping and sexual assault of Njambi. The court directed that the three be held in custody until their sentencing.

Justice Ngugi stated that the trio’s involvement in Njambi’s murder was proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The prosecution presented 38 witnesses during the trial, and despite some discrepancies in the evidence, the court made necessary amendments.

In 2018, Njambi was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and left for dead. She was found soaked in acid on the night of her abduction. Detectives launched an investigation, leading to Njoroge’s arrest and subsequent murder charges.

After the assault, a passerby found Njambi lying helpless in a coffee plantation and took her to the hospital. She was first taken to Kiambu Level Five Hospital and later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

Before her death, Njambi informed her relatives and doctors that her estranged husband orchestrated the attack. The sentencing hearing was attended by Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba.

Gathoni Wamuchomba was present as Samuel Njoroge and the other suspects received their 30-year prison sentences. The MP is known for her efforts in supporting education, as she was seen issuing bursaries to students joining secondary school in Githunguri.

The tragic case of Lucy Njambi serves as a reminder of the importance of justice and accountability in cases of violence against women. The court’s decision to convict and sentence the perpetrators sends a strong message that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated in society. It also highlights the need for continued efforts to prevent and address gender-based violence for a safer and more just society.
