Police officers assigned to Kehancha Police Station in Migori County are currently probing the death of a businessman who was fatally stabbed by a former employee in Isebania on Thursday, February 29.
According to a police officer familiar with the case, the deceased started his business as usual on that fateful Thursday morning. However, things took a tragic turn when a former employee whom he had dismissed a week earlier showed up at the business premises.
An argument ensued between the two men, escalating into a confrontation. The disgruntled ex-employee, in a fit of rage, pulled out a knife and stabbed the businessman twice in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving the report, officers from Kehancha Police Station rushed to the crime scene and secured the area for further investigation. Detectives have since launched a probe to establish the motive behind the brutal murder.
Contrary to initial speculation that theft could have been the motive, investigators ruled it out as the suspect did not take any cash from the business, leaving it untouched on the table. It was revealed that the suspect made his escape towards Tanzania in an attempt to evade justice.
The rise in criminal activities across the country has been a cause for concern, as evidenced by the Economic Survey 2023 report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). The report indicated an increase in the crime rate from 81,272 cases in 2021 to 88,083 cases in 2022, with robberies, homicides, and abductions being the most reported crimes.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by business owners and the need for heightened security measures in the wake of escalating crime rates. The police force continues to work tirelessly to combat criminal activities and bring perpetrators to justice.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are determined to apprehend the suspect and ensure that he faces the full force of the law for his heinous act. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
