A section of motorists raised concerns on Thursday morning, February 22, about the inability to access several National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) services through the eCitizen portal. The motorists took to their social platforms to share their frustration, highlighting that the Driving License renewal service was missing on their dashboards.
Expressing their frustrations over the issue, some motorists urged NTSA to address the matter before the expiry period lapses. They shared their concerns and urged others to share information if they were facing similar issues. Some motorists expressed concern over the fact that their driving licenses were expiring soon and were worried they would face the same issue.
However, a check by Kenyans.co.ke revealed that the dashboard shared by the motorists matched the old NTSA platform. While the government has shared links to all agencies to offer Kenyans ease of access to the respective services on the eCitizen portal, there seems to be confusion regarding the availability of the driving license renewal service.
Currently, on the eCitizen platform, there are two options available for NTSA services. The first is the old platform, which consolidates functions related to the application for KG number plates, foreign vehicle permits, and motor vehicle registration, among others. The second option is the new platform, which offers essential NTSA services including driving school management, application for number plates, and motor vehicle registration.
To access the updated services on the NTSA platform, users can click on the new platform link and will be directed to their profiles containing their details. On the status of the driving license, there is a tab specifically for renewal, and clicking on it will direct users to the DL renewal platform.
It is important to note that on January 1, 2024, NTSA migrated all its services from the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) portal to the eCitizen site in line with President William Ruto’s directive to consolidate all government services on one platform. Following the move, motorists, including second-hand car dealers, raised an alarm about experiencing delays in accessing the services due to a system hitch.
Despite the migration, it seems that there are still issues with the visibility and accessibility of certain services on the eCitizen platform. Motorists are hoping that NTSA will address these issues promptly to ensure that they can renew their driving licenses and access other essential services without any further delays.
