Protests shook Cheptiret Eldoret on Saturday, April 6, as a family pleaded for the release of their abducted relative, Enos Lagat. Lagat was reportedly taken by unknown individuals on Saturday, March 30 in Lang’ata, sparking outrage among residents who accused the government of being involved in his abduction.

The family, supported by local activists, threatened to block a major highway on Wednesday if the government did not provide an update on Lagat’s whereabouts. Activist Kimutai Kirui emphasized the violation of Lagat’s rights and urged the authorities to release him promptly, pointing out that he was the sole provider for his family.

CCTV footage from the night of the abduction showed Lagat walking near a supermarket in Lang’ata when he was followed by a man. Shortly after, a white vehicle pulled up, and two men forced Lagat into the car at around 11:21 pm. Despite the incident, Lagat’s location remains unknown, leaving the family in anguish and the community concerned, especially due to Lagat’s connections to influential figures.

On a different note, Victor Kibet, a former Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student, who had been missing since March 18, resurfaced after contacting his father. Kibet had vanished after purportedly being taken by individuals claiming to be police officers while at a social gathering.

These cases of mysterious abductions have raised alarm in the region, leaving many questioning the safety and security of individuals. The lack of information and leads in finding the missing persons has left families in distress and communities on edge.

As the families of Lagat and Kibet demand answers and seek the safe return of their loved ones, the community is rallying behind them to ensure justice is served and those responsible for the abductions are held accountable. The cases highlight the need for a thorough investigation and swift action from the authorities to address the growing concerns of insecurity and lawlessness in the area.

The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of individuals and the importance of community support in times of crisis. As the search for Lagat continues and Kibet reunites with his family, the hope for a safer and more secure environment for all remains a top priority for the residents of Cheptiret Eldoret.
