Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recently uncovered a clever scheme to traffic cocaine, with one suspect resorting to hiding contraband in the undergarments of a woman. The investigation unfolded with the arrest of five suspects, starting with the apprehension of a woman at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The incident took place on a Tuesday evening when the woman tried to board a flight to Madagascar from JKIA. During a routine scan at the checkpoint, authorities detected suspicious items concealed around her privates. A subsequent search revealed 600g of cocaine, confirmed by a positive spot test for the coca product.
In a surprising turn of events, the initial suspect divulged information leading to the discovery of a syndicate involving four other women engaged in drug trafficking. She confessed to being introduced to the trade by a Ugandan national residing in Kenya. The subsequent arrest of the Ugandan suspect revealed a network that ultimately led to the apprehension of three more women posing as businesswomen in the city.
The DCI disclosed that their search for accomplices led them to a beauty shop along Accra Road in the CBD, where they arrested two 24-year-old Kenyan women alongside the Ugandan national. The trio was found in possession of 33 pellets of cocaine, weighing approximately 396 grams.
Furthermore, the detectives emphasized their collaboration with international law enforcement agencies to track down the recipients of the illicit drugs in Madagascar. They urged the public to report any instances of drug trafficking and provide information related to the narcotics trade to aid in their investigations.
As authorities continue to crack down on drug trafficking, a noteworthy seizure of 11.04 kg of cocaine was made by police officers in Ghana on April 15, 2023, as reported by Asaase Radio. Additionally, on Sunday, March 24, 2024, authorities in India seized cocaine hidden in shoes and various items, underscoring the global prevalence of this criminal activity.
Through vigilant investigative efforts and international cooperation, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to dismantle drug trafficking networks and hold responsible parties accountable. The public’s proactive involvement in reporting suspicious activities and sharing relevant information is crucial in combating the scourge of narcotics trafficking.
