The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently made headlines after detailing how its officers successfully nabbed a suspected drug ring near Multimedia University. The operation, which took place on a specific date, involved the deployment of an elite team along the Ongata Rongai Road. This team, comprised of officers from the anti-narcotics division, was supported by the Operations Support Unit to ensure efficient execution.

During the operation, the officers intercepted a vehicle believed to be transporting suspected drug dealers near the institution of higher learning. The vehicle had a female and two male occupants onboard, who were immediately removed from the vehicle for a thorough search. This search led to the discovery of bhang, wrapped in two sacks hidden in the vehicle’s trunk.

The DCI reported that a total of four bales of bhang were found in the vehicle, with two additional bales discovered at the home of one of the suspects during further investigations. The drugs were promptly secured as evidence, and custodial orders were sought to properly weigh and sample the seized substances. However, the exact value of the drugs seized was not disclosed by the police.

Following successful investigations, the suspects were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, March 7, 2024, to face drug-related charges. This arrest is part of a larger crackdown on the drug trade in Nairobi and surrounding counties, as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to curb the illegal drug market.

In a related incident in Migori County on February 20, a woman was apprehended in connection to 531 kilograms of bhang seized from a home. The DCI estimated the street value of the seized drugs amounting to Ksh19 million. The operation was carried out by a joint team of DCI detectives and K9 Isebania Border Post counterparts, resulting in the discovery of 9 sacks of Cannabis sativa sticks and 8 sacks containing unrefined drugs hidden at various spots within the property.

These successful operations underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and illegal drug use in the region. By apprehending individuals involved in drug-related activities and seizing significant quantities of illicit substances, the authorities send a strong message that drug offenses will not be tolerated and perpetrators will face the full force of the law.
